Alberto Del Rio released by WWE for smack talk

Heavyweight Mexican champion released
for "unprofessional conduct" in WWE

Former multi-time WWE Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio was instantly released from his WWE contract after an incident backstage with staff.

The Mexican superstar, 37, was released for “unprofessional conduct” after an incident in which Del Rio was alleged to have slapped WWE’s Social Media Manager.

Further details were revealed when someone in WWE’s catering department had asked the Social Media Manager to “clean his plate.” The Manager responded by talking smack stating “that’s Del Rio’s job.” This news reached Alberto, who confronted the Manager regarding the issue.  The manager was said to refuse to apologise and smirked at the Mexican wrestler leading to a slap.

On the previous Monday’s Raw, Del Rio returned his aura to the ring with an exceptional match against rising star Dean Ambrose. WWE’s Twitter account directly tweeted Rio saying it was entirely his own fault.

The star has a 90 day no compete clause due to the release. TNA have already attempted to spearhead a campaign to acquire Del Rio’s services. They have been asking for his phone details and plan to make him its next World champion. Insiders claim the company are ‘very serious’ to boost Rio as its champion.

While joining TNA may be a place of interest for undervalued Del Rio, it comes with consequence. For Rio, the money and limelight may be adequate for a jump, however his reputation could be tarnished under TNA booking. This will be up to Del Rio to decide. In a time of financial strife, no-one could blame Rio for snapping up the offer. The only problem is that he will be in the not so creative hands of WWE’s minor league ‘rivals’. TNA has a stigma inside and out of its company for hiring WWE 'castoffs.'

Mexico’s AAA promotion are also likely to counter an offer, where Rio is a huge draw in the Mexican wrestling scene. Most liken him to being like the ‘John Cena’ type of Mexican promotions, where others feel he was underutilized in WWE as a main event carder.

Undoubtedly there will be more to follow.

However, on Del Rio’s part this was highly unforgivable. He cannot go around assaulting employees. Though the actions of WWE’s ‘Manager’ is also extremely unprofessional and WWE should certainly investigate or consider a job re-evaluation. Some fans have suggested borderline racism may have been at work under the Manager’s comments. Either way, neither action is professional for WWE. WWE have recently been dogged by the recent revelations to trim down staff in budget cuts linked to the expansion of the ill-fated WWE Network, which is losing money every day.

For WWE, it was an easy decision to release Rio; however it has cost them to release the star, instead of allowing his deal to simply expire.

Recently WWE have been involved in media storms with the arrest and re-hire of Emma for theft and the Jack Swagger drug protection drama. Swagger, who was busted for a previous DUI, went on to headline a Wrestlemania card likely to win its heavyweight title. He received no repercussions for his violations.

Over the last week Del Rio’s former ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez asked for and received his WWE release.

Rio had contemplated retirement over the last couple of years in the wrestling business since with WWE.

WWE are set to present their annual SummerSlam PPV in one week’s time which could see a dip in purchases over the sketchy details.

Sin Cara leaving WWE?

 Mexican luchador set
to fly WWE's nest

The future of the gleaming azure masked golden flying luchador known as WWE superstar Sin Cara has come under jeopardy as of late. With his status literally in the air, Wrestling Wonders can reveal Cara's future has a two sided gaze.

Over the last few weeks you may have noticed Sin Cara return with wider, taller and bulkier muscle mass. No, the original Cara has not illegally bulked up, but rather been suspended from a previous wellness violation and banged up with several injuries during his WWE career under the adoption of original crusader Mistico.

Having been re-moulded, Sin Cara remains on WWE television as fans have understood the current Cara to be Hunico, who was previously the black masked Sin Cara. WWE are continuing to retain the Cara character for a number of reasons, mainly due, however, to merchandise sales proving popular.

Mistico's contract expires on January 10th and WWE will wish him well in his future endeavours. Mistico has already returned to the Mexican wrestling circuit.

It is rather unfortunate that the original Cara, 31, had difficulties working the 'WWE way' as a potential mainstay, with added problems mentioned above. For Triple H, as signings go, this has been another flop choice, however, there is no need to abandon the character ultimately.

Maintaining the Cara mystique with another capable star is a valid move. It's now up to fans to drop the smark attitude and give a wrestler as the new Cara a chance to see if he can make the name a little more plausible. Mistico had agility and tenacity on his side and did a decent job with this, however, again, missed the boat at being good enough for WWE product.

These things happen. In order to find what works, sometimes, we have to go through testing times and not every initial choice will be a success for everyone. The opportunity to drive a new look forward is available.

Gaudy gay diva boosts oppression

Flamboyant gay Mexican
tranny causes community debauchery

She's the first transvestite grappler in the wrestling business, fighting alongside the boys in a man's world. Now, the homosex(ual)Mex(ican) Cassandro has proven to be a liability for the industry. Bringing shame onto the community and the profession.

The gold dress flaunting diva, who refuses to honour tradition and wear a mask in Mexico had made sterling success for the business with her strong style of lucha libre talent. Coupled with playing a he/she character, the forty three year old mascara toting freak  has shamed the industry alongside its gay community.

Turning the sport into a flaunting, predatory and obnoxious character leering over other men with connotations of disgust to represented gay men and fans of the business. Since then the sport has increased its levels of homophobia and Cassandro has also played into that fray with his/her promos, actions and recent interviews.

Contrasting men not the 'traditional gay man' have been often stigmatised as a result in light of these details. Fans and homosexual wrestlers themselves have seen this as a derogatory aspect and remain 'in the closet' and wont 'come out' for fear of isolation in the sport among bullying fans.

The LGBT communities dislike being branded as perverted and predatory when the majority are nothing of the case. Many are not a "mincey poof" from the portrayal of effeminate wrestlers and Cassandro's behaviour will continue to influence such abuse on independent and national circuits as a result of a failed attempt to gain a character boost in a throwaway interview or appearance for media buzz, which means absolutely nothing to your repetoire. Many gay men still live in fear of speaking out as a result.

By trying to curb the levels of homophobia, with his/her portrayal of absurdity, Cassandro has now helped to increase levels of isolation farther and has not broadened horizons as they may have intentionally hooped to do so and is often for their own goal to receive a comfortable fan acceptance whilst gaining a level of understanding with fans to avoid any abuse. Instead this piles out into the mainstream and independent wrestling scenes, which heightens the ignorance on offer. For that, Cassandro should be ashamed, all to influence his/her own profile for a few more years and instead leading the way for torrents of build up to be billowed out at the new generation of wrestlers who may be gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans-sexual, trans-gender or playing a gay role. By joining those platforms that have proven to be homophobic for a vocal debate continue to drive abuses, all for using the platforms for own personal ideology to 'get over.'

As for his/her mat skills, Cassandro has never been on any level exceptional and merely average, reminiscent of a jobber in WWE, basically.

Sometimes, it really is best to just keep your mouth shut.

Should Rey Mysterio retire?

Would Rey Mysterio benefit
from stepping down?

In early March 2013 the possibility of retirement was advised by WWE officials to Rey Mysterio over concerns of his health and injury issues.

With numerous runs for the star having the start/stop treatment, injury prone Mysterio may well have to consider the frustrating 'R' word any committed wrestler dreads hearing. He underwent knee surgery in 2006, and 2011, while maintaining a concussion in August 2012.

Sustaining so many injuries and his body at a possible breaking point with wear and tear, Mysterio, in Wrestling Wonders professional opinion, should take that valid advice to step away from the in-ring spotlight. There is no reason Mysterio cannot still be highly involved with the company in other areas either backstage, booking, training or PR excursions. WWE had always wanted to maintain Mysterio’s mask selling power and merchandise figures.

2013’s Wrestlemania had hoped for the smaller sized agile luchador to battle Sin Cara in a match to set a Guinness World record for the company by having fans in attendance wear the most masks in the arena whilst the match was carried out, which was shelved, as Mysterio and Cara suffered injuries in the build-up to the battle months prior. Rey won his second world title at TLC 2010.

Mysterio has given all that he possibly can to the company in his 11 years of service come July. After winning the World title shortly after the untimely death of close friend Eddie Guerrero, due for another championship run, with minor respect for his title warranted only as scraps to a memory under a long level of company exploitation, Mysterio later followed up a second world title run at TLC 2010.

WWE championship confusion

In 2011, Mysterio would participate in the farce of the WWE title confusion when CM Punk, as per storyline, left WWE with the title (still under contract) prompting Triple H as the C.O.O of WWE to introduce a second WWE championship whilst Punk still held the real WWE title. During the finals of a tournament The Miz Vs Rey was booked where Mysterio won the WWE title, until Mr.McMahon announced it wasn't legit in order to spearhead a John Cena victory and had him defend against Cena who predictably won to set up an 'undisputed' title match of the already undisputed WWE championship since unified by Chris Jericho in 2001. Technically, CM Punk was still WWE champion meaning Rey's title run doesn't count even though WWE will pencil this into their history books.

Mysterio won’t be champion again at heavyweight standards and could have one last run as a tag or mid-level champion, though his stance would be limited and could bow out in a tag team reign which the division is crying for competition in. Perhaps Mysterio should take time out until November to recuperate and make minimal appearances in his upcoming return to boost his options and run until Wrestlemania and bow out gracefully.

Mysterio made monumental contributions for WWE most synonymous with the Smackdown brand and putting Mexican wrestling on the map in the grand national promotion. Mysterio however became limited, typecast and lost relevance with the same routine from 2006 onwards which partly eats into his credibility and ability to maintain his momentum today despite his best efforts.

With a bruised and battered body from wrestling, would a life of pain and disinterest be any better? We would agree Rey should consider retirement within the next year or so should he wish to go out strongly and have a shining career to embody that choice.
