WWE release 10 wrestlers and a referee

WWE let scores of roster staff go
in drastic cost cutting measures

The week has been a long and testing one in WWE, especially for eleven members of the payroll. WWE released eleven employees from its roster last Thursday after reports WWE were “allowing contracts to run out” and would not be renewing them.

The money saving extravaganza is said to be a decision brought on by the ill-fated WWE Network which is costing way over budget for WWE to barely make a profit let alone break even. They hope the international release markets will boost the revenues after last month WWE Chairman Vince McMahon believed he was lied to by his money making teams.

If the projections are dipping into WWE’s purse at such an alarming rate then they really should consider pulling the plug on the Network before they get in too deep, regardless of trying to make the concept work. It was doomed from the get go. Let it go and save finances. It is nothing special, anyway.

The eleven talents released are listed below, with brief analysis of their departures.

The first batch of no surprises were the unfortunate Yoshi Tatsu, who never got a break, benched high flyer Evan Bourne, who WWE gave numerous chances to and Curt Hawkins. Joining them were JTG (who many were shocked lasted this long) and Camacho. There was no place for him since he lost his tag partner to a blue mask.

Slight shocks but not massively were the releases of Brodus Clay, whom WWE could have make a bigger headliner if it tried and Aksana, who WWE had grand plans for to be the next star diva. Despite her efforts with training, she just didn’t have enough in the tank.

Theodore Long also joined the list after years with WWE as did two members of 3MB, Jinder Mahal and Drew McIntyre. Since being “the chosen one” McIntyre was never fit enough to make it. It’s just how it goes in WWE. Referee Marc Harris who was upset with another referee months ago over a botched finish was not respected for such outburst and was sent packing.
Before Monday’s Raw, Chairman McMahon let lead writer Jay Gibson go as well.

More are said to follow. WWE hasn’t had its annual culls for at least two years so it was inevitable that some releases were on the way at some point. It was simply the timing that was most surprising to fans.

Though more are to go, WWE have a few names it should, feasibly, let go. The ignorant Kalisto in NXT, who shows no real skill in developmental should not have been lured by egotist fan approval seeker Triple H. It should let him go and focus on overs. Same goes for equally ignorant loser Solomon Crowe. They just don’t have it.

Ryback, of course, is never going to materialise and the best thing WWE can do is let him leave. Jack Swagger adds nothing and would also be an adequate release. Cameron is absolutely hopeless, but WWE are low on divas again, and don’t want wrestling females. They already sent out requests for more models.

There is growing restlessness in WWE that the Network is costing performers chances at earning pay and television time.

Ex-WWE nomad Chris Jericho stuck the boot in for good measure too. Ever critical of WWE, inclusive of his rude attitude toward being named No.10 best speakers in a WWE list (which is generous) Y2J spoke of the releases. Talking about Drew McIntyre, Jericho said “When you’re in 3MB it’s the end of the road” and praised Drew as “unique” as “he’s got the Scottish accent.” Delusional Jericho cheered fan favourite pint sized luchador Evan Bourne and tried to get both of them and line himself up for a job with the new Global Wrestling Force arrival later this year. Jeff Jarrett should not be taking advice from a wannabe rock star failure if he wants a serious and credible brand untainted by ignorance. Jericho is the past, not the future. His radio rants will keep him happy in his sandbox with the fans. As a credible force in wrestling, leave it to the professionals.

David Otunga and Justin Gabriel are likely to go soon. WWE have quite a lot of announcers too, and Layla, Xavier Woods and The Great Khali are strong possibilities to go later. I don’t know why, but Tom Phillips has a cute smile and I’d like the opportunity to see more of him and have a chance.

WWE could and should invest more time in developmental, acquire the correct and non-ignorant and wasteful losers who won’t contribute to a future. It needs to call up some new faces, but have strong options too. It shouldn’t be rushed, but many care and attention is needed, not Triple H’’s call ups to get fan approval. The recent calls of Paige and Adam Rose have been pathetic wastes of time. Paige has injured divas in the ring and been highly inexperienced and insufficient. These decisions make WWE look entirely weak, something they hate to be seen as. Rose is a no-hoper. Even choosing daft jobbers as his entourage contains levels of ignorance that ruins the company honour.

WWE seriously need to think about restructuring its management team, creative issues, call ups and outside influences that could really deliver for the company. Failing this, WWE has a tough few years ahead which could be a crippling loss for the future of its wrestling empire.

Brodus Clay:Somebody Call Yer Daddies! My Bad...

Brodus Clay's month long Debut
as the Funkasaurus...

Brodus Clay has debuted! Officially thrown onto the Raw airwaves on the 9th January broadcast, Clay, now highly billed (WWE can do it when they want, cant they) , donned a red tracksuit and coat, complete with bowler esq hat. Accompanied by two smoking hot dancers in matching laced attire, Clay came out to a glitter ball entrance theme and funky disco music.

Clay came to get his Funk on. Now known as the Funkasaurus, Clay, even has his own fireworks pop from the turnbuckles after his ending routine in the middle of the ring with his dancers. Clay also performs a trousers strip reminiscent of a Chippendale.

With the Funkettes, who also
outdo the atypical Divas

Strip Dance off with the Mamma Cougar...

In what many, including oneself instantly saw as a jokey gimmick angle that ruined Clay’s prospects as a performer, many still share this notion, Max Waltham will explain in detail…

Wrestling Wonders previously wrote in numerous posts that Christian should adopt red coloured, shorter tights, in order to adapt himself in portrayal to the masses in the company in order to resurrect his career. In a classic swerve, Clay now sports that very colour, and shortness in tights. He also grooves to Disco and Funk, a lost art form. Have a listen people, that was where the music was at its best.

Woo! Sparks a flying for a thrilling entro...

Though an inside joke and mock to Max, firstly, WW doesn’t care if you pull an ’inside’ - it broadens my cheek to cheek smile. Secondly, the angle, designed to prove something to outsiders, actually works in hindsight. It puts Clay over, gives entertainment and above all else, gives Clay a chance to gain audience receptiveness.

Of course, with a gimmick in WWE as this, it can only have a limited shelf life, is the fullest concern of it’s Universe. And those sceptical cannot contemplate how to take Clay seriously, now he is billed in squash job matches, on the victorious end.

Clay, has defeated Curt Hawkins, JTG, Heath Slater (Drew McIntyre, at the Royal Rumble PPV) and Tyler Reks in consecutive weeks over his monthly  Raw debut.

Got some Green, White and Red, Waltham mentioned Red and Green,
but should NEVER be seen together.

Funky Brodo-saurus!
And the finger tape looks ’saurus-y. So, all in all, the look, feel and presentation is fine. However, "Red and Green should never be seen."

It’s enjoyable and receives the seal of Waltham approval. Though it needs to gather steam and branch out into a strengthen backbone of booking procedure.

WWE SUPPLEMENTAL DRAFT 2011

The supplemental draft 2011 decided to move 22 surplus stars after it's main broadcast on RAW which saw an extra move wasted by John Cena's dominance in the main draft.

Announced on WWE's main website, they decided to move some predictable selections, other's interestingly, moved, previously thought to be unneccessary.

DANIEL BRYAN, due for a move, left RAW but accepted with open arms by the WWE Universe. Many are expecting high things from Danny Boy, so WWE now needs to re evaluate the fact that Bryan has an audience firmly behind him ( and not just the 'Internet Darlings'), and can grow and produce stock value for those at Gorilla. Use him to your advantage and create a new vantage point for the company. He has main event poise should you promote it.

Delish and Talented! Capitalise now..

Also heading to the blue brand are THE USO'S and TAMINA. Previously I wrote that the draft should have left Tamina on RAW with Santino, and I stick to it for the fact that JIMMY and JEY USO need space to breathe and regain their position in the Tag division - which is possible. They are the only team in WWE alongside Slater and Gabriel that can re build it right now.
All 3 kept together, will they begin a career now?

What can he do?
Re-form with Zack? please no, Ryder can go places..

JTG went solo to RAW, along with CURT HAWKINS (many surprised he was still employed) and the masterpiece CHRIS MASTERS. It would be rather nice to see the masterhunk set some parallels on RAW. Even a Zack/Masters presentation as an important and not jobber value fued can invigorate the product.

The 'Masterhunk' © Max Waltham :p

Unfortunatly (and again predicted) WWE moved Bimbo Bimbo aka KELLY KELLY
Bimbo Bimbo - for good reason here
over to it's flagship show. She could have had another year on S/D for development (slim as that would be) If Kelly nabs the Diva's title as WWE is quietly planning it will signal the end of all Women and Divas and it will never come back from this. The female equivalent of John Cena will ruin everything for the Unified Women's title - which it still is. It will also be a massive slap in the face and insult to THE FABULOUS MOOLAH.

Moolah, when Women meant something

As Women's Champion (which is still Undisputed 'Diva's' Title)

It isn't taking off yet...
Drew 'Crap' 'Mc' Intyre has also been thrown to the red ship. At this rate of his career, DREW MCINTYRE will not sustain any momentum as a future champ or even mid card. Focus on others, then McIntyre later - having time to grow in himself will benefit him. 'Fans' will not get on board at this stage.

Don't you just love his tufty hair?
Diva Devine!
Could he 'play' with Sin Cara?

WILLIAM REGAL added some class to S/D, as well as YOSHI TATSU adding to the demographic. TYSON KIDD also added a touch of pink along with real life girlfriend NATALYA. Understandable for both to move though Nattie should've been on RAW still to keep her supporters and keep herself in the game.
Is he happy?

Glamazon as Women's Champ

Best bud BETH PHOENIX crossed shrores and will resurface on RAW. The move was neccessary and the right one for the division. Alongside Gail Kim to step it up with Kharma would be welcomed. Though we are gagging for Kim to have the lead role!

Maryse sold well. Kharma is here, Raw-hh!

JACK SWAGGER finally came back to RAW! This has thrilled me, but i'm sure to be regretting it soon, as the masses 'up top' won't fully push him back towards the main picture now Del Rio has moved. Del Rio should have remained S/D's top brass, leaving Orton and Swagger on RAW. Nethertheless, please stop the pairing with McIntyre to give them 'something to do'. And DON'T throw him back to Evan Bo-u-ring. That is what ruined his building process to Heavyweight Champion/main event material.

Still Champ material

Don't trip over your own foot down the ramp this time :)
What to say..
ALICIA FOX moved as did THE GREAT KHALI to the Smackdown brand. Neither have any interest, which should worry WWE into doing something.

TED DIBIASE also got his move. The poster boy of the Draft, as I stated before, needed this move, now it is his last chance to set the world alight, and we hope you do it! Give time and allow for feud's to develop and not be thrown to a tag team dynamic again. Interestingly all 3 of LEGACY are on the blue brand, just as all 3's careers are taking off in different stances. MARYSE however didn't join her beau on blue.

<3 Will Cody Rhodes mock those pearly whites?

TYLER REKS
(RAW) has the look of someone who can add a different aspect if used correctly. KOFI KINGSTON needed his move, however, once again... WWE gave him the US Title (see Extreme Rules 2011 Review) which I wrote was a bad move to predicatably do to make sure RAW had a secondary title due to S/D having both mid card champs.

New home, new fans?

On RAW now..

S/D now has 2 lobster heads!

SHEAMUS was the final star to move in the supplemental draft as number 30 (the 22nd supplemental, 30 in total including the Televised draft on RAW). Sheamus did not need to move. He should have stayed on RAW gaining more of a place there and his spot could have been saved for John Morrison to move.

A - Rod was on Daybreak!!

Rileylicious!

ALEX RILEY was predictably seperated from The Miz and sent to Friday Night Smackdown! I will miss him on RAW, though if WWE correctly manouver him on S/D, Riley can become a serious player for WWE in the future. He has his expreicence with Miz, Fueded with top brass Cena and played with S/D's top man - Randy Orton. He also has talented skills in the ring alongside a sustainable voice on the mic. Riley can add a whole new dimension WWE is crying out for. This is the man to push forward for 2011, even though you don't fully realise it. Given the green light, Smackdown can shine brighter than the company predicts itself. Act now, think later has been the philosphy on rushed stars who weren't able or ready (except for Swagger and Sheamus), well with Riley - act now, think later applies. His labour seems fruitful for the future.

Feel free to comment, follow or get updates, thanks for reading, and enjoy!

The Uso's got some dance moves! (As does Michael Cole..)
