WWE Extreme Rules 2011 Results & Review

Held on Sunday May 1st, I was given a Birthday Treat, or was I?

Placement on the card was going to be the key element in how matches were perceived. So what could possible kick the PPV off with a stong result.

The Last Man Standing Match

Randy Orton Vs CM Punk

Punk gives Orton the knee drop in a battle of the Thighs :)

Slithers toward the 'Conda

The leader of the Nexus, whom lost on the previous PPV to the very same man here, CM Punk had to pull something out of the bag. Would he play his Nexus interruption card? Thankfully the creative department allowed both men the respect they deserved to have a clean, 1 on 1 encounter to provide us all with a sterling effort and wonderful match which now features "entertainers" from two superstars whom have talent with the ill fated , do not mention, 'W' word. Afterward Nexus were allowed to assist Master Punk, but only after he was left lying for 10 as Orton, the new centrefold of Smackdown - with some manly and well defined stubble for us to drool over (Thank You), was Last Man Standing. The feud is over, but both men have made this a joy to watch over the last few months. Feud of the year?

Both men fly perfectly

To the victor goes the spoils. Look at that stubble... :p

Impromtu Match - US Title   Tables Match

Sheamus Vs Kofi Kingston

An impromtu and unadvertised match, set up for one purpose, to send the US Title (drafted with Sheamus to Smackdown) back to flagship show RAW. It was a pointless change to implement. Sheamus' loss added to his delayed opportunities and Kofi's win, as i previously wrote, won't do anything for him in terms of status or development among WWE's future players - wherever he may be place on the tiers. This match actually destroyed both in a slight way.

Kofi brought the US Title back to RAW Via a table and Sheamus

Country Whipping Tag Team Match

Jack Swagger & Michael Cole Vs Jerry "The King" Lawler & 'JR' Jim Ross

Recently knighted (by the croaky voice 'Queen' 'Liz of England) defended his honour after winning Wrestlemania. With trainer Swagger at his side, would heavenly prince Jack turn on 'Sir' Michael Cole?

Cole's right to be scared of the King

That was the only drawing point of this match. The action didn't even matter. It meant nothing. This match went on far too long and JR and King had their time against them. Was it the booking plan or booking team? Either way it was a shambles. The only saving grace is that Swagger is out of this pointless feud and all 3 commentators can do something else that contributes to the product (other than the childish scripts on JR and the homophobic comments from Twitter, or in a Cena promo - to which WWE  has taken no action on, and must realise that Gay and Lesbians are a market among WWE as others are). At least Booker T got a birthday gift and was allowed on commentary.

Screw Michael  Cole, hold ME instead Jack!

Rey Mysterio Vs Cody Rhodes – Falls Count Anywhere

Barricade Barbarics!

Took it outside the ring for the WWE Universe

Making sure Rey got a pay off so to speak, he regained a pointless victory in this ending feud, as a result of a re run from losing at 'Mania 27 to Rhodes. Rhodes should have either had the mania win and finish the feud or win again here and go on to S/D with his character further enhanced as the intention was to develop Cody. At least they gave some interaction for the fans by entering the outside barricades and smashing into a stacked item in the middle of an empty space - namely the bins/ boxes near the arena merchandise stands, which wasn't pre determined at all.

LayCool finally over..
Loser Leaves WWE – No Disqualification, No Count-out match

Michelle Mc Cool Vs Layla

Everyone knew the advertising of this one was utter bull. After a John Cena - 2 week - kayfaybe breaker and Dolph Ziggler's 'firing' would one of WWE's 2 main divas - both of whom provided much more to its product than many others could do, actually leave?

Regardless, Michelle Mc Cool Vs Layla began.

Laycool was officially broken up. With a pairing such as this, more time should have been devoted to their breaking feud, especially when both produced volumes for the organisation and it's division.

Eventually, a pre menstrual Layla rolled up McCool after a fair to good match for female standards. The finish wasn't a good one. Layla got a cheap roll up out of nowhere, which was clean, thankfully, but all the same should have set her up as a main character going along S/D. Taking someone 'out' of WWE , especially your 'best friend' is a huge deal, and accolade to achieve and brag about.

Got the 2nd biggest win of her career and shelved her best friend.

Layla managed to get out of ringside in enough time, because ... OH NO... an evil laugh beamed. What, Where did it come from ? ( apart from the speakers) KHARMA! Formerly Awesome Kong (from TNA), she finally made her debut, to which Michelle Mc Cool seemed paralysed in the ring with fear. Unable to move, she watched in awe as Kharma made her way down the long ramp to the ring, where she entered and laid waste to McCool. Everyone was thrilled with Kharma's debut, and it looks as though there is much more potential to come from her. We will be watching with intrigue. We 'like' this one.

Kharma's coming for you! Bye-Bye McCool..

World Heavyweight Championship, Ladder Match

Should have won IMO to keep the title alive
Alberto Del Rio Vs Christian

A match with many questions and possible outcomes. This is what the 'E should be adhering to. Though Del Rio managed to lose once again, and fail to grasp a hand on the title that 'had his name on it' ruined whatever momentum and fan base he had going into Wrestlemania. Alb has lost a few followers among these outcomes. Building a new star then pitching ideas and scenarios that ruin his potential following is not a welcomed manouveur. Most clearly knew who would win. Some were still pondering a possible swerve turn by Vinnie Mac. Del Rio on RAW means he will win, right? As appealing as it was, Del Rio could still feasibly defend on S/D. Though WWE chose to stick to the philosophy of World Title moves with the star should he win, that they (and Edge having a handle in this no doubt), pushed forward the decision to finally take Captain Charisma to new heights. Christian, after interferences from Brodus Clay and Edge (in his favour) clambered the ladder to gain his first ever World Title.

The question is, was it too little too late? Christian, down-played for years and upon his return, was practically given the title. How can he now establish himself as the stronghold of S/D and the company portrayal as champion? Can Vitamin-C re-VIT-alise himself and the position of the brand it is represented on?

Finally won the big one, Congrats to Christian.

Would it have been better on Del Rio? Man of the moment would have upheld more than Christian of course, but regardless, and although we are happy Christian finally got the big one, was it beneficial in McMahon's WWE, with his mindset of Christian? With the additions of Randy Orton, Daniel Bryan, Alex Riley and Sheamus, as well as Wade Barrett, Undertaker and Kane on the blue brand, can he cement his position as the man who can fend off the popular and maintain his credibility?

Blood = Censorship, Quick get him off TV!

Undisputed Tag Team Championship, Lumberjack Match

Big Show & Kane (c) Vs Wade Barrett & Ezekiel Jackson

Newly crowned team of Big Show and Kane, champs both separated to RAW & Smackdown, respectively, defended against the team of Wade Barrett & Ezekiel Jackson.

Stood no chance as a team

Still Undisputed Tag Champs
Another unannounced match, was supported by Lumberjacks would did their job to stand there and occasionally touch, push back in or attack any of the 4 men involved in the match should they reach the outside for whatever reason.

Eventually, Show & Kane successfully defended the titles in a toilet break/filler match. Barrett (as Intercontinental Champion) was a tell tale sign he wouldn't win another title, paired with Big Zeke, just did not look like a credible team and had no unity among them. It simply wasn't believable.

Rendered Irrelevant despite the WWE sizing strategy

The real speculation was whether the Lumberjack standing with his back to us in a cowboy hat was JBL? Of course it wasn't? Right?  Possible 'culprits' speculated were Daniel Bryan, DH Smith, Chris Masters and Hornswoggle (?), amongst the texan cowboy himself. IMO, it may have been Danny boy Bryan, we know that it was a guy in red tights and slender. No way was it Masters, nor Horni. Place your bets... (Although I do know the answer..., try to figure it out as a little pop trivia, answer is at bottom of the blog).

WWE Championship, Triple Threat Cage Match

John Morrison Vs John Cena Vs The Miz (c)

Went in as WWE Champ..

Do we smell title change in the air? Almost everyone did, but which John was taking it? What of the Cage match itself? The steel cage was rendered obsolete. No real uses of the cage except for a mounted escape attempt that occurred almost every second for every individual involved when action wasn't on the canvas. The Miz and John Morrison had a very scary and choppy moment at the top of the cage when Morrison carelessly hurled Miz up on the top rafter of the structure causing his footing to be misplaced and bungled the spot to try and not be thrown of the top of the Cage and win the match, amongst being squashed like a tomato. Another added reason as to why he shouldn't have been in the match. R Truth should have remained in the spot and given more of an outlook in debate to who may bag the title as his first WWE title match and his new persona of elevation in character. Alas, Truth did come to assist the match, but in no one's favour. His disgruntlement was with Morrison though. Also doing his spot on the Cage door hanging from the top of the Cage above the door being smacked by it angle as he has previously done, once again added to his lunacy of Spiderman antics at Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber - which still hasn't gone over as a new expressive style - get a STYLE, not a gimmick, and you might gain something more sustainable.

Constantly the middle man..

In the end, once again predicted by almost everyone after the Wrestlemania no sell and making Miz seem in-equal to him once again, John Cena snared the title. Commentary informed us that Cena had, not had the title for a whole year.

Miz thwarts Morrison's attempt to leave WWE Champion

Is that telling the audience that we should be grateful that after a year off, time to build new stars, which Cena managed to cripple everyone - Miz, Riley, Nexus to name a few, we should accept what were given? The audience wont welcome this dictatorship practice. That's a huge tip. Keep your audience; don't drive it away again, even if Cena sells the T shirts and baseball caps or spinner belts.

The forgotten man R Truth would've been WWE Champ..
The disappointment of the PPV had to be the fact that in PG WWE, Extreme Rules features a different pre requisite to it’s match type on the card. Every match is tendered to be ‘unique’. Though Tables, whips and a steel Cage were hardly used in the context they were famed for or determined. The only stand out match pardon the pun was the Last Man Standing (most would assume Christian’s win would be the one) but looking at it objectively, both men in the LMS worked together told the story and delivered to the audience, only problem was once again being overshadowed by John Cena therefore meaning they had to go first and become played down and slightly diluted as most of their matches have been. They could have been blockbusters from both men if given enough prowess.

Once again not celebrating but gloating to his 'haters' the 'W'  collective

Overall PPV Rating – 5/10

Men/Women  of their matches - CM Punk, Jack Swagger, Alberto Del Rio, Layla, The Miz, Cody Rhodes (Daniel Bryan?), Wade Barrett,

Man of the PPV - Christian

WWE SUPPLEMENTAL DRAFT 2011

The supplemental draft 2011 decided to move 22 surplus stars after it's main broadcast on RAW which saw an extra move wasted by John Cena's dominance in the main draft.

Announced on WWE's main website, they decided to move some predictable selections, other's interestingly, moved, previously thought to be unneccessary.

DANIEL BRYAN, due for a move, left RAW but accepted with open arms by the WWE Universe. Many are expecting high things from Danny Boy, so WWE now needs to re evaluate the fact that Bryan has an audience firmly behind him ( and not just the 'Internet Darlings'), and can grow and produce stock value for those at Gorilla. Use him to your advantage and create a new vantage point for the company. He has main event poise should you promote it.

Delish and Talented! Capitalise now..

Also heading to the blue brand are THE USO'S and TAMINA. Previously I wrote that the draft should have left Tamina on RAW with Santino, and I stick to it for the fact that JIMMY and JEY USO need space to breathe and regain their position in the Tag division - which is possible. They are the only team in WWE alongside Slater and Gabriel that can re build it right now.
All 3 kept together, will they begin a career now?

What can he do?
Re-form with Zack? please no, Ryder can go places..

JTG went solo to RAW, along with CURT HAWKINS (many surprised he was still employed) and the masterpiece CHRIS MASTERS. It would be rather nice to see the masterhunk set some parallels on RAW. Even a Zack/Masters presentation as an important and not jobber value fued can invigorate the product.

The 'Masterhunk' © Max Waltham :p

Unfortunatly (and again predicted) WWE moved Bimbo Bimbo aka KELLY KELLY
Bimbo Bimbo - for good reason here
over to it's flagship show. She could have had another year on S/D for development (slim as that would be) If Kelly nabs the Diva's title as WWE is quietly planning it will signal the end of all Women and Divas and it will never come back from this. The female equivalent of John Cena will ruin everything for the Unified Women's title - which it still is. It will also be a massive slap in the face and insult to THE FABULOUS MOOLAH.

Moolah, when Women meant something

As Women's Champion (which is still Undisputed 'Diva's' Title)

It isn't taking off yet...
Drew 'Crap' 'Mc' Intyre has also been thrown to the red ship. At this rate of his career, DREW MCINTYRE will not sustain any momentum as a future champ or even mid card. Focus on others, then McIntyre later - having time to grow in himself will benefit him. 'Fans' will not get on board at this stage.

Don't you just love his tufty hair?
Diva Devine!
Could he 'play' with Sin Cara?

WILLIAM REGAL added some class to S/D, as well as YOSHI TATSU adding to the demographic. TYSON KIDD also added a touch of pink along with real life girlfriend NATALYA. Understandable for both to move though Nattie should've been on RAW still to keep her supporters and keep herself in the game.
Is he happy?

Glamazon as Women's Champ

Best bud BETH PHOENIX crossed shrores and will resurface on RAW. The move was neccessary and the right one for the division. Alongside Gail Kim to step it up with Kharma would be welcomed. Though we are gagging for Kim to have the lead role!

Maryse sold well. Kharma is here, Raw-hh!

JACK SWAGGER finally came back to RAW! This has thrilled me, but i'm sure to be regretting it soon, as the masses 'up top' won't fully push him back towards the main picture now Del Rio has moved. Del Rio should have remained S/D's top brass, leaving Orton and Swagger on RAW. Nethertheless, please stop the pairing with McIntyre to give them 'something to do'. And DON'T throw him back to Evan Bo-u-ring. That is what ruined his building process to Heavyweight Champion/main event material.

Still Champ material

Don't trip over your own foot down the ramp this time :)
What to say..
ALICIA FOX moved as did THE GREAT KHALI to the Smackdown brand. Neither have any interest, which should worry WWE into doing something.

TED DIBIASE also got his move. The poster boy of the Draft, as I stated before, needed this move, now it is his last chance to set the world alight, and we hope you do it! Give time and allow for feud's to develop and not be thrown to a tag team dynamic again. Interestingly all 3 of LEGACY are on the blue brand, just as all 3's careers are taking off in different stances. MARYSE however didn't join her beau on blue.

<3 Will Cody Rhodes mock those pearly whites?

TYLER REKS
(RAW) has the look of someone who can add a different aspect if used correctly. KOFI KINGSTON needed his move, however, once again... WWE gave him the US Title (see Extreme Rules 2011 Review) which I wrote was a bad move to predicatably do to make sure RAW had a secondary title due to S/D having both mid card champs.

New home, new fans?

On RAW now..

S/D now has 2 lobster heads!

SHEAMUS was the final star to move in the supplemental draft as number 30 (the 22nd supplemental, 30 in total including the Televised draft on RAW). Sheamus did not need to move. He should have stayed on RAW gaining more of a place there and his spot could have been saved for John Morrison to move.

A - Rod was on Daybreak!!

Rileylicious!

ALEX RILEY was predictably seperated from The Miz and sent to Friday Night Smackdown! I will miss him on RAW, though if WWE correctly manouver him on S/D, Riley can become a serious player for WWE in the future. He has his expreicence with Miz, Fueded with top brass Cena and played with S/D's top man - Randy Orton. He also has talented skills in the ring alongside a sustainable voice on the mic. Riley can add a whole new dimension WWE is crying out for. This is the man to push forward for 2011, even though you don't fully realise it. Given the green light, Smackdown can shine brighter than the company predicts itself. Act now, think later has been the philosphy on rushed stars who weren't able or ready (except for Swagger and Sheamus), well with Riley - act now, think later applies. His labour seems fruitful for the future.

The Uso's got some dance moves! (As does Michael Cole..)

WWE DRAFT 2011

WWE DRAFT RESULTS 2011

Kicking off with the first draft pick from the WWE 2011 Draft, who would it be, clearly someone monumental. Someone who would set the tone for the evenings preceedings. None other than JOHN CENA! The unthinkable occurred. HE moved. Crowds all over rejoiced and were thrilled. Though we should have clearly seen how events were to unfold towards the end of the night, Cena, who came out so quickly  and easily took the blue shirt and gave his salute without any disagreement or shock. This was an obvious sign which was overlooked by the elation of Cena moving and the fact that technically, once a draftee moves they are taken out of the 'pool' of draft selection.

The lockerroom, seemed totally shocked to lose Cena from RAW, rather than showing joy.

(Minor note :- it was announced that 2 picks were to move via the announce desk)

See below for the R Truth response that came next on RAW's broadcast.

So second pick to go, well, who could follow Cena of all people? Leaving one key player firmly on RAW, WWE then shocked the world by moving RAW's only left Key Player - RANDY ORTON! RAW became fresh and open for a new star to evolve as the top man now both it's figurehead's had left the fold.

After 2 Smackdown picks, RAW was due one. They got REY MYSTERIO. This told us who would be moving in the draft later. With Cena also gone, many wondered if this was a marketng ploy to sell more masks.

Next was a double pick, 2 to move finally, and S/D got the steals. MARK HENRY as #4, ( a main powerful draft pick was someone who has done nothing of importance or been involved in angles of meaning) and #5 being SIN CARA (as predicted by Mysterio's move) if Cara didn't mess his tope rope spot up with Primo a few weeks back he would've stayed on RAW and Rey wouldn't have moved.

It's getting late in draft picks for a 2 hour show. Original talk was for 12 - 14 picks to move in a 2 hr show. Getting to the sixth draftee, pretty obvious WWE would move this one, but unfortunate. Kane would have been a much more sustainable choice, but alas BIG SHOW became an official member of RAW (every year he moves back and forth, which renders him and the draft pointless).

Alongside Big Show, RAW gained another joint pick, ALBERTO DEL RIO! The man lined up for the World Heavyweight title on S/D was thrown away from it. WWE have just dropped Del Rio flat on his backside. First missing the boat at Wrestlemania and now drafted to RAW. The third knock for Del Rio will be from John Cena. Their match at Summerslam will clearly be a disaster for Alb. His momentum was spectacular, but being sidelined is now costing him his fanbase. One has to wonder how much involvement the future chairman in the wings, namely Triple H has to do with this.

So, at the end of the broadcast, waiting forever for the picks to come and draft to end on a high note, and announcing that 3 would be moving (then only 1 was announced) speculation was rife. The eighth man to move was... JOHN CENA! What? and B*ll***t! was proclaimed by many watching this pointless draft.

As mentioned to begin with, once a draft option is selected, they cannot technically be placed back into the selection pool, Which therefore means that Vince McMahon royally messed up with this one! But hey, only WWE/Vince could do the classic Vince swerve turn and 'get away with it'.

Please listen... Damage control is needed as this has just seperated yourself from the 'WWE Universe' as well as questioning how far away from the product one actually is. Behind the times or outdated from the understanding of it all? To look credible, you must stick to it. This draft is one of the biggest draws for RAW yet it didn't shake things up again for Key Players, it shook the WWE system in terms of it's followers and supporters who wanted a change in the product (and with Cena moving).

The supplemental draft has been comprised of main players that should have moved in the televised draft to establish themselves among the elite. This space was for the likes of Mark Henry. Jack Swagger or Sheamus should have moved among the main draft.

After the first draft, RTruth came out to give the best heelistic promo of a)his career and b) for a VERY long time in WWE land from ANY performer on the roster.

I'll say it again, R Truth has many more options than John Morrison IF WWE pushed him and gave him ample time and his 'voice'. They attempted to do this here, which i give praise to and i myself definatly enjoyed it, even if it was slightly long for the Draft edition of RAW. Many however don't believe in the WWE product for one fact, they removed R Truth from his spot, whether undeserved or not, they should have run with it, just as the Cena draft debacle which was a massive stick two fingers up at the audience.

See next post on the supplemental draft moves.
